As Featured in the Financial Times

Our work at Salmestone Grange — a 14th-century, Grade II*-listed former monastery in Kent — was recently featured in a Financial Times article on the rise of home microgrids.

The property now runs on a carefully designed heat pump and battery system, installed by Thermal Delight. Despite the building’s age and lack of insulation, the system provides reliable comfort year-round — without the need for gas.

Thanks to smart use of variable electricity tariffs and 40kWh of battery storage, the setup is now saving Henry £3,360 per year in energy costs, with a projected payback in around six years.

It’s a good example of how older buildings can be upgraded for low-carbon living — with the right design, the right kit, and the right support.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

"Last year by this point we had spent £240 on gas - this year the Heat Pump appears to have cost £65, more than three times cheaper...long may this continue - Thank You"
Keith, Broadstairs House

3 reasons to get a heatpump

1. Comfort, All Year Round

A well-designed heat pump gives steady warmth in winter, gentle summer cooling, and reliable hot water — ideal for those working from home. Done properly, it’s the most comfortable system you’ll ever have.

2. Lower Running Costs

Heat pumps move heat instead of making it, delivering 3–4 units of warmth per unit of electricity. With low flow temperatures, smart controls, off-peak tariffs and a battery, they can run at under 1p/kWh — around one-sixth the cost of gas.

3. Future-Proof and Low Carbon

As the grid gets greener, so do heat pumps. They run on electricity, not fossil fuels, so switching now keeps your home ahead of future policy and avoids uncertainty around gas, bans and retrofits. For cutting carbon, it's one of the most effective steps you can take.

Our philosophy

At Thermal Delight, we focus on how you want your home to feel — not just warm or cool, but consistently comfortable, efficient, and easy to live in. That means quiet systems, steady temperatures, and hot water that’s always there when you need it. Behind the scenes, we apply careful design: accurate heat loss calculations, low flow temperatures, well-sized pipes, and smart, simple controls.
